A Confession of Supreme Technolust
I'm weak! Weak I tell you!
In the last few days I've lusted for some HOT new tech items: an iPod nano, the iTunes phone, a new Powerbook (hopefully announced in a couple of weeks)... what to do??
What I would tell a library or a workshop filled with tech-planning librarians is to give it some time, read some reviews and talk to some early adopters. Find out what their experience has been, etc. What are folks saying about the nano or the phone? Look at the big poicture of what needs and services such tech might improve or replace...
Hmmmm...or maybe I'll just surf over to the Apple Store.. :-)

Time For a Cool Change
I begin six weeks leave of absence today from SJCPL! Wowza!
I am hitting the road for ten days in Traverse City this afternoon...for some much needed unpluggedness and some prep time for a very busy stint in June: Reinventing Libraries workshop, workshops with the Purdue Library (blogs), the Darien, Connecticut Public Library (blogs & IM), the start of the summer session at UNT and ALA!
I'll be blogging after the Memoiall Day weekend!

Please be careful and take care of yourselves! I have been wrestling with a neck injury probably aggravated by too much laptop-ing since the fall and it's a tad disheartening. I heart my laptop but I am super careful using it now.

Three Things that are HOT right now:
Libraries that get the balance between technology, space and people and plan accordingly to meet the needs of all who seek information.
Librarians who experiment with new techie stuff and report to the LIS Blogosphere how it goes. (That's a big piece of what a learning community is all about)
Technologies that are used as tools, not like carnival attractions in our organizations!

Good Morning! For almost 2 weeks I have been busy- in DC for CIL 2005, downstate for Indiana Library Federation, teaching at IUSB and doing some online collaboration. Today, however, I'm hitting the road for Traverse City to see how things are going Up North. See you in a couple of days!

I am finishing a huge project for school this week and next. It's independent study with Dr. Maurice Wheeler at UNT. I'm designing a class for doc students examining how technology has impacted Public libraries. One of the themes is the "unintended consequences" of technology.
I am hurtling toward unplugging through Christmas though. The idea of a break from the keyboard is attractive right now...
Do not fret - I will be back...we have so much cool stuff to look at and talk about here at TTW as libraries continue to meet technologies in new and interesting ways.
I also need to write a bit about my amazing weekend in Denton for class!
